If this is the standard Airstream gaucho design, the original design was in
three parts. The bottom (sitting part) was upholstered and hinged with
fabric to the upright back piece. The upright piece had a piece of plywood
inside of the upholstery cover next to the foam to give stiffness to the
backrest and also to provide a base when in the down/bed position. There
was an additional skinny curved piece that also had a piece of plywood
inside the upholstery cover. Hope that helps...
