Re: [VAL] Re: VAL Digest

David,

I suspect that if you weighed your fully loaded Airstream you will find out
that the trailer weighs more than 3500#. Its the loaded weight that you will
be pulling and stopping.

Also, remember that any tow vehicle rating will normally include only the
driver, no passengers, cargo, or even the weight of the hitch!

If you weigh your trailer and you are well under 3500# (which I think is the
max trailer weight for most minivans with the towing package). Then I would
go with whatever minivan you like...assuming that it has the factory towing
package. The minivans I am familiar with are all front wheel drive. You will
want to use weight distrib bars...assuming that you can find the proper ones
for a trailer of your tongue weight. This is so that you are not taking a
bunch of weight off of the drive/steering wheels. Air shocks will not put
the weight back on the front axle.

Another problem with towing with a minivan is the width. You will not be
able to see down the side of the trailer even with extended side
mrrors...you will always have a large blind spot.

If you are worried about fuel milage I would suggest you look into a full
sized van, or truck, or even a mid sized SUV...The smallest V-8 or even a 6
cyl will handle that weight very well IF is has a towing package.
