On my previously owned 54 It was no problem to remove the old 
bushings.  Assuming yours is the same there is a metal sleeve over the bolts.
As an emergency repair I was able to force heater hose over the 
sleeve and reinstall.  Later used a lathe to make new bushings from 
1.5 inch nylon rod.
The commonly available bushings available at most trailer places are 
smaller and drilled for a 9/16 bolt.  I believe the A/S ones were 3/4 ID.
All from memory so my info may be wrong.
