[VAL] Re: VAL Digest V3 #496

When I replaced the axles on my 63 Overlander with Dexter axles, I
made provisions for shocks, but did not install them for several
trips. One of the trips took us to Baja Ca, Mx.
The trailer's ride was excellent, with no signs of bounce or distress
whatsoever. Eventually I grabbed the shocks from the shelf and
installed them, with no apparent improvement whatsoever. I had the
exact same experience with my 71 Tradewind, that time with Henschen
axles and completely worn out shocks. Replacing the shocks with oem
new units made no difference, whatsoever.
A rubber torsion axle is self damping according to Dexter
engineering. I can now confirm this based on personal experience.
