[VAL] Jim/Toyo vs Carlisle...how about Towmasters

Jim - regarding Toyo vs Carlisle.

I've read enough on Carlisle to stay away from them (personally).

Here in the Northwest - Toyo is a major brand that (at least for a long time)
was obtained from the Les Schwab chain of tire stores. Les Schwab is highly
regarded here in the NW - and if you watch tires on cars....you'll find that
Toyo's end up as replacements on lots and lots of vehicles once their OE tires
 wear out.

Here in Walla Walla (farm country) - you'll note the Toyo name on a wide range
of trucks (light to heavy). I had Toyo's on my '79 1 ton Ford 4x4 and they
would not wear out.

Last summer I purchased a '74 Silver Streak 28' Continental Supreme from Southern
California. It was in near mint condition having spent it's life parked summers
at a lake along with another Silver Streak. However, it did need tires - due to
weather checking - for the 1200 mile delivery trip to Walla Walla. I instructed
the seller to put new tires on it prior to delivering it to me and after
researching - decided I wanted old style bias plys on it for the original look and
the original ride height and clearance.

I discovered the Towmaster line of tires - and went with them. They are from the
Greenball Tire Company - www.greenball.com and if you go to this part of their
website
http://www.greenball.com/company.htm you'll note there is some relationship with
Goodyear along with other manufacturers.

You might ask around further about this line - I know I like mine so far.

Best Wishes. RL McFarland
