When I was first starting to polish I used a $50 craftsman buffer. It only had one speed which you could adjust by the pressure you put on the trigger. The easiest way to compound that I've found is to just buy a Makita Variable speed buffer. It is a great machine and makes life easier ($199.00). Have fun! Butch
