Re: [VAL] Padded vinyl near air conditioner

Hi Warren:

The padded wall covering in the bedroom is the deluxe interior
treatment for the top-of-the-line "International" trim level Airstreams
such as your Overlander. It serves as few purposes: insulation to keep
the trailer a bit warmer in cold weather (while the same padding bed
level on the walls keeps you separated from the cold metal walls during
cold weather), insulation to keep the trailer a bit cooler when the air
conditioner is running in hot weather, and a bit of sound deadening
material to reduce the noise form outside sources. 1964 Airstreams with
the less expensive Land Yacht trim had painted walls. I don't know if
the walls will be painted under the padding, so you might have you wife
peek first to see. If the walls underneath are not painted, then you
will have to paint them or otherwise make them presentable after the
padding is removed. You are removing a deluxe original feature that
many people look for when buying an old Airstream.

The fiberglass bathroom fixtures will have great value to other 1964
Airstream owners who may need those parts, so if you remove them
carefully you can sell them to someone nearby (they are too large and
floppy to be shipped long distances). Someone might also find the
gaucho useful. In fact, most everything you carefully remove will have
value to others, so please offer them for sale if your are not going to
use them in your renovation.

Has your wife figured out where she is going to move all the utility
systems to that presently are located under the bathroom rear bench:
plumbing, electrical, holding tank, etc.? Good luck with your project.
