RE: [VAL] RE: VAL Digest V3 #193

Wendy,

I use throw rugs with the rubber backing because they come in a
variety of sizes, colors and patterns. Since they can be inexpensive
if I get tired of the color it is not much to replace them. Camping
world carries some that are runners and can be purchased in different
lengths.

If you go with a household carpet with a jute backing be sure to have
a cloth backing applied when it is hemmed. The stiff jute fibers might
scratch and abrade the floor beneath. Alternatively, you might
consider an indoor/outdoor type of carpet that you can cut to fit. It
will have a soft rubber like backing and will not need hemming. The
drawback on that type is it is not available in too many attractive
colors, and it is not as thick. I've used some of this in the bath
though. There are rolls of 9' x 12' available in gray, dark blue, and
green at COSTCO for about $25. It can be cut easily with heavy
scissors. Initially it resists laying flat but it settles down fairly
quickly and can be cleaned with a normal upright vacuum cleaner.
