Re: [VAL] temperature monitor

Jim;
The idea of a temperature sensor for the "Cold Spot" has ofter been
something I thought would be nice to have. I wonder however if the
thermocouple is the right answer. The amplification from millivolts to
usable signal will make it a noise nightmare in a none lab environment
of 20 feet non shielded cable.
Have you considered a solid state temperature sensor? Look at
http://cache.national.com/ds/LM/LM34.pdf
This gives an output of 10 millivolt per deg F. It is very easy to
interface to an A/D and has 1 deg accuracy.
70 deg F will be .7 volt. It will also do below zero if a +- power
supply is used. There is also a deg C unit lm35.
Let me know what you come up with.
Thanks
