[VAL] Re: New (old) subject: polishing

I've been attempting, a little each day, to hand polish my 66 Caravel.
Using Met-All aluminum polish. I put a little on a dry cloth, rub til my
arthritus screams stop and the polish has turned black. Then I rub again
with the opposite arm to get it off. It is an excruciatingly long
process and my consumption of muscle relaxers is reaching the danger
point. Question: Is there a better polish? I have a random-orbital
buffer and tried to to remove the black gunk, but one pass and the pad
is so black I can't use it. Should I moisten the cloth before applying
polish? At the rate i'm going, I'll be done sometime in '07. It's also
virtually impossible to get out of the cracks/scratches and other
40-year old blemishes.
