[VAL] sucking air

All-

The water pump in our 1979 Sov. Int'l 31' seems to be sucking air. 
Despite my best efforts at sealing the obvious connections the problem 
continues. I did just replace the pump; I know the pump is functioning 
properly, as I've tested it's intake hose with a bucket of water. No 
leaks. It's further along the intake side somewhere.
Anyone have experience tracking down a leak of this nature?
