RE: [VAL] White Roof

<http://www.airstreamforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13363>

I just got done reading the entire thread (all 5 pages). There are some
serious flaws in the "scientific" results posted.

1) measurements were from the "outside" of the skin

2) measurements were from the use of an IR gun

3) no "inside" measurements were taken

To summarize, while the tests were interesting, they were not complete
enough to be useful. Measurements need to be taken from the underside of
the skin both by IR gun AND by surface contacted probe. The IR gun will
provide some insight into what temperatures will be radiated to the
insulation and possibly to the inner skin. The surface contacted probe will
provide measurement of conduction and possibly some convection potential.

These measurements are much more important than the IR radiation of the
exterior of the skin. We SHOULD expect the outside of the skin to be much
warmer (or colder at freezing temps) both by IR gun and contacted probe
than the interior temps of the trailer.

Also, I would be much more interested in what paints are used by Boeing and
Airbus to prime or finish coat their hulls than what NASA uses for space
exploration where there is only the possibility of radiation and a small
amount of conduction.
