[VAL] '65 safari here--finally get to play

our Safari was delivered on Sat. and we didn't even have time to look inside
as we were going away for the weekend.

so today was the exploration day--all good news as yet.

this is what we know so far--

stove works, fridge lights--we're making ice cubes right now--the original
ice cube trays were in it!

interior lights work.

The stairs were stuck open, but Bob got them going again with some oil or
something.

the pump went on when we turned it on for a nano second.

about 1/2 of the windows need new cranks--and maybe some more structural
stuff.

we haven't tried water or toilet and shower--but there's no rush for all
this.

I cleaned out all the junky stuff inside and took down cup holders and all
that crap that was screwed into the wall.

also pulled off the icky coverings for the couches--it's too bad that the
original upholstery is so worn as it's a nice nubbly turquoise.

next step--tomorrow I'll start washing down the interior--it's mold city.

the tiles are covered with ancient indoor outdoor carpeting--also a mold
attractant--the tiles are in great condition except for one in the
bathroom--unfortunately the rubber underside of the carpet has bonded to the
tiles--i hope it won't be too hard to scrape off because i'd love to be able
to keep the original flooring.

we are re-discovering how incredible Airstreams are--here's this 40 year old
trailer still with crisp snapping catches and more--basically everything
still good--just needing some TLC.

we had some champagne to celebrate---Zoe
