Joe,

Propane will do the same thing that any other petroleum product will, such
as gasoline.  It will turn back to dense and light distillate.  The dense is
the "varnish" that ruins carbs, tanks, lines, and fuel pumps.  The light
distillate will actually vent itself off around rubber gaskets and seals.

I don't know the specific expected shelf life for propane but if I was
making a guess I would say 3 years max.  Gasoline is more like 4-6 months.
