Dan, you need to get the plastic or rubber collars that auto 
folks use where wires go near metal edges.(real name ?) No 
amount of cleaning up the edge is going to keep the wires 
from getting abraded quickly.  Find them the right size for 
your wire bundle first, then drill the hole to fit them.

If this is going to be exposed to the weather, you should 
consider a waterproof connecter there instead of just a 
hole. No amount of caulk will keep the water out after a few 
miles and years.
