[VAL] How fast can you tow?

From the later part of 1969 to there later part of 1973, I was the only
field representative for Caravanner Insurance Company, the insurance division of
Airstream.

I was involved with many different projects, one of which was, "how fast can
you tow a loaded 31 foot Airstream"?

The tow vehicle was a 1968 Buick.

The tow vehicle had an "airspeed" indicator installed along with a movie
camera positioned on top of the front seat.

The camera would show the oncoming traffic, the speedometer and the airspeed
indicator.

The total combined weight of the Buick and the 31 foot Airstream was 14,500
pounds.

The state and highway number shall remain a secret, that was used for the
"speed test".

The speedo and airspeed indicator, were calibrated prior to the test.

Wide open, the recorded speed on film, showed 115 MPH.

The rig handled like a dream, and coasted a long long way down the highway,
when I took my foot off the gas pedal.

So trust those that say, "it will go as fast as you have guts"!!!
