after many cross country trips with both auto and manual overdrive in MY opinion it depends on the condtions! If your in flat plain country overdrive would save you alot of fuel! If you are in a hilly terrain then the overdrive disengaged helps you keep up speed on inclines and saves your brakes on declines! my two cents alan t Phx az
