The "pin type fitting" you refer to may be a valve required by some codes to
prevent water from possibly siphoning from the shower base through the hose
into your fresh water system.  I always like to error on the safe side but
this seemed an unlikely occurrence to me so I removed the valve and replaced
the hose from a good local plumbing supply store.
