Re: [VAL] Magic Chef oven

 Steve,

Follow the little gas tube from the pilot burner tip back to the thermostat
controller. Some stoves have a miniature valve right at the stat, with a
little screw which not only adjusts the size of the flame, but acts as a
shutoff for those who want to save gas and use a butane stick lighter instead.
The slot in the screw should indicate the direction of gas flow. In line with
the pipe=full on, across the pipe=full off.

If I were you, I would look to see if that pilot tube is connected to the
thermostat with a fitting which could be loosened with a small open end
wrench. If there IS a loosenable fitting, I'd loosen it and listen for a
hiss, shoot it with a non-ammonia based, bubble making solution and look for
bubbles, or toss a lit match at the thing and see what happens.

Not really...just wanted to tickle the self-appointed OSHA purist enforcers on
the list. I guess I've had a little too much coffee this morning...

Mark in Modesto, wishing you luck.
