[VAL] copper canyon flatbed

Hello Travelers,
I want to take my travel trail on the flatbed copper canyon tour.  I have
(at least) two questions I'm looking for information on:
Must you sign up for a long caravan or can you book individually ...are
there spontaneous groups that occur at loading?  
I think I want to go down the canyon from East to West but am looking for
experienced traveler's opinions about this.
