I replaced my univolt too, didn't even try to fix it. 
Although the univolts on the newer AS's are better behaved, 
the older ones buzz and hum. In addition, they don't know 
how to finesses the battery charging and tend to over charge 
and thereby shorten the life of the battery.

I am on the same 4 year uld ultima yellow top battery and 
all is very well with it and my intellipower. I would have 
to say this is one area where restoration is a mistake. 
Better to get newer and better technology. You'll save money 
  in the long run on batteries.
