[VAL] Airstream restoration project...

I received the following e-mail from Melissa Cross in reference to a
restoration of an Airstream trailer on the DIY TV network. As you can see,
they are looking for TV guests for their step-by-step restoration of the
trailer. There was a little more information contained in the e-mail in the
form of a Microsoft Word document, and I have put it up on my website at:
http://www.tompatterson.com/Trailers/ShowInfo-AS.htm

I am told that the following e-mail also went out to a number of Airstream
and restoration folks including R.J. Dial and Toby Folwick. I don't know
what kind of reception they will be getting from all of them. At this
point, I think they are just wanting to find out who might be able and
willing to work with them.

The trailer itself, I understand, is a 27 ft. 1970 model, in fairly good
condition. They intend to use it to demonstate restoration techniques, but
without having to do a complete floor-up restoration. This would include
things like polishing.

If anyone is interested in being involved, or appearing as a guest, please
contact Melissa directly. She is not currently a member of this list, but
has indicated that she may sign up to follow any discussions.

RE: New series featuring the restoration of a 1970 Airstream trailer

Hi Tom. I'm excited to tell you that the DIY network has chosen a vintage
Airstream trailer as the next restoration series for DIY's "Classic Rides"
television series! I've enjoyed your website and Airstream information and
can see that I have a lot to learn! I'd love to talk to you about any ideas
that you have or possible participation in the series.

I've attached some information about the series and the network. DIY is part
of the Scripps Networks which also includes Home & Garden TV, The Food
Network and Fine Living. DIY is available in over 30 million homes in the US
and Canada (DIY website: www.diynetwork.com). I work with the production
company, RIVR Media (www.rivr.com).

"Classic Rides" premiered on the DIY television network on October 2, 2004,
with the first 9-episode series featuring the restoration of another
American icon: a 1965 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide motorcycle. The show
airs on Fridays at 9:30 pm and 12:30 (DIY's new "Automotive" programming
block), and again on Saturdays at 10 a.m. The Airstream series is expected
to air in the spring of 2005 and the restored Airstream will eventually be
given away to a lucky viewer. The 9 to 13-episode series will feature the
restoration of a 1970 27-foot Airstream Overlander.

We're interested in guests and suppliers for the show and any advice and
contacts that Airstream enthusiasts and experts can offer. Guests for the
step-by-step projects will include restoration specialists, Airstream
experts and general RV experts. The projects will be typical restoration
projects, from exterior polishing to interior re-modeling to general RV work
(electrical, plumbing, LP maintenance, etc.) We cannot pay for travel
expenses to Knoxville (where we tape the series) but we can offer hotel
accommodations (and a great time taping the show!). Our tentative tape dates
are: November 19 - 23 and December 6 - 10, TBA in January and possibly
February.

I'm looking forward to sharing the Airstream passion and culture with our
viewers and know that this series will be a big hit. Please let me know any
ideas that you have. My best, Melissa
