[VAL] gaucho modification
I came up with a modification to the gaucho in our '79 that I have
found makes it's use as a couch much more enjoyable. In brief, I hinged
the front apron with a piano hinge, and installed an aluminum extrusion
that slides out on carriage bolts from the frame to support the apron
in the horizontal position. This makes the seat about 5" deeper, which
makes a world of difference in it's comfort. The whole deal cost ~ $30
for hardware and about 4 hours work. If anyone is interested in a few
pictures, E mail me and I'll be glad to take and send a few.
I should mention that we use a double size futon mattress, which we can
simply slide out to make the seat deeper. This probably wouldn't work
if you are committed to a shorter seat cushion.
Cheers,
Chris K.
