[VAL] Furnaces

You don't hear from me often but here goes.

For those of you working on older furnaces:

Once upon a time I had and "older" furnace. It would try to start but the
burner wouldn't light. Took it to an Airstream dealer, Well over $100 in
1982. Still never worked. From some of my latent knowlege about
electricity, I looked into the wiring. The whole length of the 12 V wire to
the furnace had cracked insulation. I replaced all those wires and the
furnace run like new. There was enough electric leaking from the cracked
insulation that the fan would not go fast enough for the switch to turn the
burner on. Was that the sail switch? Whatever it worked.

Good luck, Kathy with a '61 Bambi now.
