Jeff, I will tell you the same thing that I told Patti. If there is nothing
else wrong with your axle, remount your springs so that they are on top of
your axle instead of below.

I did this on my '60 Overlander with leaf springs a couple of years ago and
it no longer scrapes going in and out of steep driveways. Be sure that the
hitch is properly adjusted (the ball height as well!) and you will not
adversly affect how the trailer tows.
