Not to be contrary but sure you can, as long as the proper procedure is 
followed.  Even if you wore the Alclad thin (doubtful), you can still 
obtain acceptable results.  Polishing is basically imparting a series of 
progressively finer scratches to the metal, until they become 
imperceptible.

This is drastic and usually unnecessary.  I can provide a link to before 
and after shots of good results if you would like.
