My experience with deck screws is they tend to be brittle also - pretty
thin. Similar to drywall screws in thickness + since I'm securing to floor
and walls, don't think they would work at all into metal. My plan to secure
my new cabinets was to use nice stainless (at least at floor level) screws
- after all this discussion will probably use phillips since they are easy
to find. Upper cabinets I figure steel is probably OK - less chance of
moisture up there. The ones I took out above the floor level were not
rusted at all after 46 years.
