Re: [VAL] hitch lock

No, I doubt anyone would go to the trouble of lining up the threaded shaft
of the hitch ball but it wouldn't be too difficult to do if they brought
along a washer and nut to install your hitch ball onto 'their' receiver bar.
Then they'd have to raise or lower the trailer or their vehicle so they
could then back up to the receiver bar.

How many times have we seen people just pull out from their trailer when
they finally get parked and leave the receiver bar hanging from the trailer
hitch, complete with their other hitch equipment like load levelers, etc.?

If anyone is really determined to take your trailer they will. Even
heavy-duty tow chains could be used to elevate the hitch end of the trailer
and tow it away where they can then take their time hitching it up right so
they don't look too suspicious. Now, an Airstream being towed just by
chains hanging from the back of a vehicle *should* set off alarms in
anybody's brain that something is *wrong* with that picture! Things being
what they are today and our police busy on the bigger events in our new
lives might not have the time nor the energy to investigate a scene like
this. When I reported the break-in of my tow vehicle they took my report by
telephone - they sent no one to the house - they trusted me that I would not
file a false report as that is unlawful. Well, so is stealing your trailer
unlawful and I bet they'd STILL send no one out!

You have to do whatever you have to do so *you can feel safe* parking your
prized Airstream. In South Florida thieves even steal aluminum light poles!
Right, they cut them down, cut them up and haul them to the recyclers.
Imagine that! And the recyclers - well they just know it's aluminum.
Right! And they don't get involved either. Can you imagine finding
streetlights missing from the Expressways of Miami? It happens! And,
thieves have even stolen the copper wiring that runs from pole to pole which
is underground in conduit. Brazen aren't they?

Maybe we should invent the type of trailer frame that come apart, just like
our receiver hitches do. Bet that would throw some thieves for a loop.
