RE: [VACList] Refers on Solar

Greetings Neal!

I didn't necessarily have a problem with the price of propane - - I
simply don't like living with any gas appliances. When restoring my
Overlander, I went with a 3-Way Dometic RV refrigerator and a solar
installation (2-75 Watt panels and one 50 Watt panel with controller
panel, Trace Inverter, and three gel cell batteries). In the past three
seasons, the refrigerator has only been operated on gas for three hours
(long enough to verify that it operated correctly when it was first
installed) and has been operated on either 12-volt or 120-volt AC the
remainder of its life (I do not use the Inverter to operate the
refrigerator - - when off-grid, I switch the refrigerator over to
12-volt). I have been thrilled with both my current 3-way refrigerator
and its predecessor that was in my 1980 Nomad - - I have never had any
performance problems with the Dometic on 12-volt so long as I had it
thoroughly cooled down on shore power before switching to 12-volt.

Good luck with your project!

Kevin
