The rock guards are held open by two rods that have an inner rod that slides inside when 
closed. They are held in the open position by a thumb screw or wing nut if it the U-channel 
type rods.
The door open latch that you refer to is available from Inland RV. If you do not have the 
aluminum cover each part is sold separately from them, I know the black plastic slide was 
fairly inexpensive when I ordered one last month.
