Re: [VACList] Reese Dual Cam, question
Do you have the correct hitch (spring bars) for the tongue weight of your
trailer?
I'm going from memory on this but when I used a Reese hitch 25 yrs ago on my
68 Overlander, the ball was tilted slightly back away from the tow vehicle
bumper, maybe 4*-5*. When the spring bars were inserted into the hitch
head, the chain ends pointed slightly downward. As the bars were drawn
upward to level the trailer, the bars arched slightly upward and became
closer to parallel to the trailer “A” frame, providing adequate ground
clearance.
If you have spring bars rated for a heavier tongue weight then your trailer,
say 1000# bars for a 500# tongue weight, the bars mayl be too stiff to arch
when pulled up and the chain ends will be much closer to the ground, when
the trailer is level.
