[VACList] exterior maintenance

We're getting ready to start our GIANT project 

We have a 1980 Caravelle.

I'm trying to follow the suggested list on the VAC page for restoration. 

So we're up to the exterior. I seem to remember reading something somewhere
about using Vulkem to seal the seams.

Is this something I do even if I have no leaks, just as a maintenance thing? 

Please advise, and if it is, what's the best approach.
