Another popular retro wall material is Formica laminate on 1/2", 1/4" & 1/8"
plywood.  Standard aluminum extrusions & trim pieces tie it all together.
There is a place in Livermore Calif (Hoskin & Muir, Inc.) that has over 100
shapes and sizes of aluminum extrusions, and most larger towns have such a
place - usually shower enclosure mfg's.

I've also seen 4 original installs that have stainless sheet, and of course
the original installs were mostly painted Masonite.

All 1950's original and retro installs start with a good stainless pan...
