Re: [VACList] Rivets

Chris
If you want solid rivets you'll want to use MS20470AD5-4 rivets. You can get
them longer then cut them to the length you need. Rivet cutters are what
you'll want to cut them to correct length, end dikes will work but if your
unexperience shooting solid rivets it makes it a little harder to get the
proper shop head. You can order rivet cutters from ATI Industrial Tools
(75.00$)or maybe another aircraft tool supplier. If you have some areas
where you need to shoot a blind rivet, the Cherry Max rivets are the
strongest and provide the most consistant pull versus Olympic. One draw back
to using Cherry rivet is they have a gold stem versus the silver in Olympic.
Also the ones with the rubber gasket, the rubber will rot/dry out if exposed
to extreme heat/sun.
One other thing. Before shooting solid rivets in your trailer get you a
scrap piece of metal and practice a few times first. The shop head height
should be about 1 1/2 times the rivet diameter.
Good luck
Bobby
