[VACList] Hydroflame heater removal

Hello 

I'd like to remove the furnace from my 1968 Caravel for cleaning. Is there
a trick to separating the sections of exhaust pipe? I can see there is a
seam; one piece is inserted into the other. I've tried to pull the two
pieces apart, but they won't separate. Any one have any luck with this?
Any advice would be appreciated.
