Hey Jim:

The gas is no problem, really.  Just use up the gas by hooking the tank up
to your barbeque (if you have one) and filling back up with new.

But if the "propane is several years old" have you got the new OPD valve
installed in the tanks(s)?  If not, you may be in for a nasty surprise when
you go to fill up.
