I don't think it was don't polish, it was polishing a coastal Airstream is a
little more difficult due to the excessive pitting usually found.  This is
not necessarily an issue nowadays with the improved methods of polishing
(http://www.perfectpolish.com) available as it once was.

What does become critical is living along a coast with a polished but non
clear-coated Airstream.  I think barning and monthly, maybe bi-monthly
washes are to be expected.  We go to the coast maybe 6 times a year, and the
salt-water haze that collects in a matter of days requires a wash after we
get home.   Up Hwy 1 in California there are a couple of forlorn airstreams
we pass that even I wouldn't try to save, as they show the severe effects of
prolong salt water air exposure.
