If you have an original A/S manual you will find that it would show a 
standard GM 350/350 set up was considered "perfect" for a 31 foot unit.
A 71 caddy was built for it!...that what they towed em with in the 70s.
also you will see many pictures in A.S. advertising in those years with eldos 
in them.
I also believe that tranny coolers are always smart for any towing situation!
Also an equalizer makes it handle best!
