Long term I would think you'd want to rivet a small
patch in place.  The perimeter could be sealed with
Vulkem.

Short term, you could use my favorite method.  I used
to think that duct tape was the wonder-material.  Now
I know better.  Aluminum tape is our friend.  It's
weather-tight, easy, and relatively inconspicuous. 
This is a real plus for those "temporary" repairs that
end up being in place for a long time.
