Dr. Johnson,

Thanks for the great tutorial on DC motors. I did not know the bronze
bushing was porous. It explains why the design of the motor is the way it
is. It is a high quality motor from my opinion. Probably worth the price
when you consider what a pair of sneakers (athletic shoes) costs now days.
:) They only last one year. I think this one has enough copper to last
another 20 years.

I think this heater was replaced in 1984. My sluething continues. It is
still old though.

I also did not know that emery was conducting. I need to do a web search on
"Ideal Tool".

Wagner High Quality non gumming oil is what my boiler guy said to use on the
convection blower of our WM boiler. I think I will give it a try. He would
use a good and forgiving oil with all the heating equipment he services.

You are a wealth of information. Thank you.

Has anyone come up with a reasonably priced VFD (Variable Frequency Drive)
for these heaters. My thought here is to run off of 12DC with much better
efficiency than inverters, and not have to worry about brushes. I think I'm
stretching the fence here.
