I've done a little research into your stove grate
issue as I have a similar problem with my trailers. I have spent some time in
the amateur car racing world and alot of low volume parts are black oxide
coated. This is what you would see on tools and many suspension part
assemblies. It takes a while to rust and looks great, kind of a mat black
hue. Check out www.caswellplating.com . They have kits
for the home plater for nickel, chrome and even black oxide. I contacted the
company with the question about using it for a stove grate and they didn't feel
that it would cause any problems. Good luck with it.
