I think Dr. J was referring to the trailer, too.  The - post should 
connect to the trailer chassis, the + will eventually have a fuse before 
it connects to the Bambi's power center.

Other options are they crimped something, shorting the positive to 
ground.   You might start by isolating sections - remove the battery 
fuse and see if if it is downstream of it.
