Toby. Putty tape, dries out in time, because the oil in it bleeds out. It 
really should not be used anyplace on the exterior of any Airstream product. 
A product called "tacky tape", does not dry out. Or someone can use Par-bond 
or Vulkem as a sealer.
I don't know of anything that a person can do with old putty tape to revive 
it. On the other hand, if it could be given a new lease on life, it still in 
time will dry out, rendering itself useless.
