Gerald J. The inner rubber rods don't harden, they instead, soften, which
allows excessive downward movement of the trailer. That in turn makes the
torsion arms move upward, which approaches the built in stop. When the stop
is hit while the trailer is in motion, the trailer bottoms out. That shock is
dispersed to the entire trailer and it's components.
