We just returned from the Georgia Unit Summer (July 4th) Rally with about
100 other Airstreamers. While walking around distributing rally programs and
seeing what neat ideas the other owners had come up with for their coaches I
noticed that quite a few trailers had deadbolts installed on the door frame
side of the entry doors. Most of the 100 trailers at the rally were not
vintage units so it may be that Airstream has modified the door frame and
door on later coaches in a way that a deadbolt installation doesn't weaken
the door as Andy warned about. There were too many trailers with deadbolts
to not be factory installed. They certainly looked to be factory original
equipment.
