No I did not have any cut any ribs as far as I can remember.  I
installed it horizontally and set it up off the floor on a
wooden support so it would be in line with the outside hole.  It was
really easy to do albeit I measured 5 times before I
cut.  Also the cover that came with the furnace was white and I paited
it several times with aluminum spray paint and then
two coats of clear cote.
