Tim, You are correct. Pulling the ducted furnace and replacing it with a
catalytic or electric heater will also remove the heat source keeping the
holding tanks from freezing on the newer vintage units. The older trailers
do not have this feature.
Catalytic units however require very little electricity, much less than a
forced air furnace. They do tend to heat only one area of the trailer, but
are great if you are boondocking because of the low electricity draw. They
also produce moisture and use up the oxygen inside the trailer. Keeping a
window or vent cracked open is a must when using the standard non ducted
catalytic heater.
