That was one extreme example. I was doing 35 MPH or so, but pulled over to 
let the line of cars behind me get by. Once I started again, I couldnt go 
much faster.

My Transmission Temp guage showed that things were getting warm, in the 
"yellow" range, but did not hit the "red" range. So I doubt I had "cooked" 
the transmission. I had OD off and had manually downshifted to first.

yes, my truck is a bit underpowered for my trailer (4.6L E250), but is 
still rated to pull the weight I was pulling. Most other times I had no 
problems maintaining speed.
