Vulkem does what silicones claim, but Vulkem really works. The caulks
for the building trade these days with long guarantees are the
polyurethanes like Vulkem, not silicones.

Caulk everything from eye level up right away and do the rest at your
convenience. A 1/32" diameter bead along the edge of each sheet at the
joints will do wonders. Did for my '68 Caravel.
