[VAC] Re: Vintage tow vehicle (1972); Which Airstream?

The Ford 390 and 352 share many parts. I have a '65 F350 dually with a
390. That year they shared the same heads. It has some odd 4 barrel
carburetor and a 5.13 rear axle from a bigger truck. I have no idea what
the limit is on its pulling with a NP-435 manual transmission with a
7.5:1 first gear. I know its more than 13,200 pounds, I've pulled that
without warming it up on a hot day or changing the gas mileage from the
normal 9 mpg. Driving it at 65 will drop the gas mileage to 8 mpg,
without load. The 7:00-16 original tires limited the truck gross weight
to 10,000 pounds. Even with the duals. The empty truck weighs about 5700
pounds. Towing is probably limited by the hitch and tail end of the
frame. Maybe by the brakes. But 13" diameter drums have a lot of lining
area.
